Angela Evelyn Bassett has been an American actor since the late 1980s. Known for her work in television and in film from the mid-80s onwards, she has received various accolades like two Golden Globe Awards and sixteen NAACP Image Awards in addition to nominations for two Academy Awards and seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett was born in Winston-Salem North Carolina, raised by an aunt in New York New York. Bassett along with her sister, and their mother relocated into St. Petersburg Florida when Bassett was just five. The father of the family had divorced their mother. While in high school Bassett watched John Steinbeck's drama Of Mice and Men starring James Earl Jones and decided she wanted to pursue a career as an actor. After graduating of Yale University New Haven Connecticut in 1980, with a Bachelor's Degree of African American Studies, she went on to earn a Master's Degree (1983) from the Yale School of Drama. At Yale she met Courtney B. Vance a fellow actor and the two got married in 1997. Qualification: B.A. Graduated from Yale School of Drama School with a master's in African American studies in 1980.
